Perez- The Real Hero (Malaysian GP 2012)

Sergio Perez the young Mexican driver clearly stole the show at the Malaysian GP. Yes ye know Assholonso won L …Maybe I won’t call him that today since Alonso drove a brilliant race. When the race started this afternoon I don’t think anyone predicted Perez would be on the podium ahead of Hamilton, except maybe Perez himself who was secretly wishing for a miracle. In my last blog I mentioned F1 during the good old days…well guess what??? The good old days are back baby!
The race started on a wet track with the rain pouring down and when it dint seem to stop red flags were pulled out. The race was stopped for nearly an hour but it was far from boring. First McLaren brought out these super cool canopies and camped ahead of the rest, then my twitter feed was full of jokes about Kimi  getting some ice cream and Narain praying that the race doesn’t restart so he gets half a point! I must say it was very entertaining.
The biggest disappointment for F1 fans during the first few laps was Schumi dropping down the order after he was tapped from behind by Grosjean. Very sad indeed as both the drivers looked very strong in Qualifying.  Not a great race for Lewis as he started in pole position and finished third yet again. But he looked visibly happier about his third position finish here than in Australia and I guess that’s because he beat Jenson and none of the Red Bull or Mercedes drivers won.
Alonso jumped Hamilton when the later was boxed in during a pit stop. And the order was Alonso, Perez and then Hamilton. Every one thought that not only Hamilton but a lot of other cars would pass the Sauber. But Perez drove brilliantly and not only built up a good lead ahead of Hamilton but also challenged Alonso. He had amazing pace and was definitely faster than the Ferrari. If his stupid race engineer wouldn’t have gone on saying, “take care of the car!!!! Take care of the car!!” a zillion times maybe he wouldn’t have gone off track and could have actually won the race.
Clearly this race was full of surprises. Alonso and Perez gaining the most out of this wet shocker of a race. Lewis finished in third and I still stand by what I have said, for me he is the biggest contender for the World Championship. Behind him we had Webber who yet again did way better than his team mate. Kimi finished quite strong in fifth position. Senna also beginning to come into his own this season with sixth place. That Williams car is looking good this season. Then we have the rookie Vergne sandwiched between the two Force India’s. I must say a great performance by Force India as it was the only team that had both their cars finish in the top ten. And we round up the top ten with Schumacher.
There was clearly a lot of drama this weekend. Mercedes clearly struggled and just dint have the pace under these wet conditions. Vettle’s season keeps getting worse, did you hear those crazy messages the team was sending him on the radio on the last lap “Stop the car… No no keep racing………………..Stop!!!! It’s an emergency”. Jenson messed up and then just wouldn’t stop complaining like a little girl on the radio. Narain enjoyed his 51 minutes of fame when the red flag was out. And Perez was on the podium!!! What a race!!! If you missed this one I suggest you watch it online because it was one hell of a race.

And PLEASE COMMENT!!!!! I don’t like talking to myself.

Lewis on Pole- Malaysia day 2

As I predicted Lewis Hamilton is on Pole in Malaysia…Hamilton’s been on Pole two weeks in a row and Jenson’s been right behind him, what a great start for McLaren. Lewis has not had two consecutive pole positions since 2009 so I’m sure he's delighted. He has clearly bounced back from whatever happened in Australia … Jenson was really close to his team mate but was out qualified for the second consecutive race and hes not he only one,Webber out qualified Vettle  for the second time as well.
Schumacher must be happier than any other driver on the grid after qualifying P3. The last time Schumi was so high on the grid was in 2006 when he was with Ferrari, so I’m sure the seven time World champion will be celebrating.
I know everyone is saying don’t write the Red Bulls off yet but to be honest I want to!!!!! I’m fed up of the Webber V Vettle Championship where nobody else seems to matter. I feel like we are back to the good old days where you couldn’t predict who was going to win, you had at least 4-5 really strong drivers fighting to win in every race and where the Championship fight went right down to the final race of the season. I’m loving the 2012 season aren’t you??? Vettle and Webber are both on different strategies for tomorrow. Vettle is going to gamble and start with the harder tyre, so lets see which Bull gets it right tomorrow.
I must admit that I never liked Kimi when he was with Ferrari, mainly because he defeated Lewis in the World Championship but he has had such an amazing start to this season that maybe I will forgive him!!! He looked amazing today and pushed that Lotus to its maximum. Unfortunately he will suffer a five-grid penalty for a gearbox change and that pushes him down to the bottom of the top ten. If he continues to drive this way I wont be surprised if he goes back to Ferrari next season to replace Massa.
The Ferrari’s did nothing great as usual. I don’t blame Alonso, you can clearly see that he’s trying to push the car as much as he can and getting the best out of it. Massa on the other hand needs the team to shake him and yell, “What the bloody hell are you doing?”
Rosberg looked strong in the practice sessions but dint manage to do well in qualifying . So your top ten are Lewis, Jenson, Schumi, Webber, Vettle, Grosjean, Rosberg, Alonso, Perez and Kimi. My predictions for tomorrow are Lewis, Schumi and then Vettle or Jenson. What are yours?

And yes if you like this page or you don’t feel free to comment because right now I feel like I’m talking to myself here!

Malaysian GP- Lewis fastest in P1 and P2

Lewis Hamilton flying ahead in P1 and P2 at Sepang, I told you so!!!! My favorite Brit is the obviously the biggest contender for pole position tom. The anthem for the Malaysian GP should be “Feeling hot hot hot” as most of the drivers baked through the first two sessions. I was hoping for rain but not to worry there are still two more days to go and guess what the weather mans screaming – Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain tomorrow and day after!  Let’s discuss how the teams did today in both the Practice sessions in Malaysia.

McLaren
As I predicted Lewis looks stronger than everyone else, he did go a little off track twice but all in all a brilliant performance by him as he topped the time sheets in P1 and P2. My money as always is on Lewis Hamilton for this race.
Button was only ninth fasted in P1 but he improved in P2 and made it to third fastest but Hamilton definitely looks more superior this weekend.

Mercedes
Schumacher continues to look strong, he has definitely got good pace and moved up from fourth in P1 to second in P2. Schumi fans get ready to rejoice coz the German is looking good this season.
Rosberg also had good pace in the other Mercedes and managed a good fourth in P1 and third in P2.

Red Bull
The Red Bull’s continue to look lost, they are not so far away from McLaren in terms of pace but they just look sooooooooooooooooo lost! Vettle went from being second fastest in P1 to tenth fastest in P2. And Webber went from being sixth fastest to seventh. The Bulls are not looking good people! I must say I enjoyed watching Vettle hold a fan for his Mechanic while he worked on his car at the start of P2. You don’t see a double World Champion holding a fan for his mechanic often but this really shows u that these guys are a team.

Ferrari
Assholonso seems to have improved from fifteenth in P1 to sixth in P2 but the Ferrari’s are definitely not strong. Massa continues to be a failure who is going to be out of a contract very soon at this rate. He was thirteenth in P1 and sixteenth in P2.

Lotus
Grosjean continues to impress in the Lotus, he was fifth in P1 and ninth in P2. Hopefully he will have a better race than Australia and really show us what he can do in that Renault. Kimi got a new steering setup this weekend after complaining about the same in Australia. He dropped from seventh in P1 to fifteenth in P2.

Toro Rosso
Ricciardo looked very quick in P2 finishing fifth fastest, his team mate Vergne wasn’t far behind and finished eighth fastest. P1 was not so good for both these drivers as they dint even make it to the top ten.

The rest of the teams dint really put up much of a fight. Kobayashi spent most of P2 in the garage while the mechanics worked on his gearbox issues. Force India, Williams and Sauber all looked ok.  I don’t mean to be rude but obviously HRT, Caterham and Marussia are all competing in their own little race. What are your predictions for P3 and qualifying tomorrow?
